“I suspect that some of those Republican critics have a short memory, because, as I recall, I’m inheriting a $1.3 trillion deficit, annual deficit, from them.”
— President Obama, responding to Republican critics in Congress who say his proposed budget carries an irresponsible deficit“(President Obama) inherited an enormous range of problems, including these retention contracts that are the understandable source of public outrage.”
— Treasury Secretary Geithner, on Capitol Hill Tuesday testifying before Barney Frank
Could this just be a misunderstood talking point?
In addition, he made it clear that this economic mess was something he “inherited” – a common refrain since he’s taken office – and repeated that his “critics” don’t have a budget blueprint of their own to counter his.
— CBS News, thoughts on Tuesday evening’s presidential news conference“The Obama administration inherited a massive deficit, high and rising unemployment, a massive bailout-in-process of the major financial institutions, and a high rate of mortgage foreclosures.”
— Media Matters for America, ‘Memo to the media: Where’s W?’
Is “inheriting” a bad thing? Not really.
The black poverty rates are still more than twice that of whites in both cities (26.5 percent v. 11.5 percent) and suburbs (18.4 percent v. 7.3 percent), and black per capita income is just over half that of whites in cities and two-thirds of white per capita income in the suburbs, on average.
One seldom hears the words “black” and “inherit” together in a paragraph, let alone a sentence.
Barack Obama should be grateful that he’s one of the few black people (we’ve heard publicly) inheriting anything.

eh, well, the “messiah” isn’t legal & all, so if anything, I’m sure a fantastic black guy from our side (maybe Michael Steele, who knows?) will be president in the not-too-distant future and be the ACTUAL first Black president, not some dumbass white Dem who was named the “first black president” [Bubba]
Reader of the Free World! I love it!
Right up there with Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers.
And America’s Last Black President.
Why would they even bring the word deficit into a conversation. The Obama deficits are going to make Ws look like childs-play, and that’s just after his first year in office.
And please, the left bitching about W’s spending habits: please show me where one dem ever stood up and complained about the money he was spending, other than to cry that he was going to starve people, blah, blah, with his miserly spending habits. Enough with the feigned outrage bullshit.
I could be said to have plagarized it myself; though it’s simply that I don’t recall where I read it.
the reader of the free world.
that’s a good one.
i think i’ll plagerize that.
me and biden are kinda like that you know?
oops … that should end as “… The One who puts the “0″ in obamination”
(that’s a zero)
How dare! you evil, racist hate-mongers say these hateful things about the Reader of the Free World, our Teleprompter Jesus, our Obamessiah, who puts the “0″ in obamination!
this is elmer gantry with a tan’s bait and switch.
criticize his predecessor for the 1.3 trillion dollar debt so that no one will notice your quadrupling the same debt.
saul alinsky 101
didn’t bush say he owed elmer gantry with a tan no criticism.
why?
This man has no class. I don’t remember any other President blaming all their problems on and constantly insulting their predecessor. Not even Clinton did that.
First of all, he didn’t inherit anything. To inherit means this was place on him without his knowledge. The man AQUIRED this mess. He campaigned for the job, knowing full well the state of the country during the whole time. While campaigning, he even offered himself as the solution (giving vague decriptions on how he would accomplish that). I’m tired of that word: inherit. He wanted the job, he has it. Including everything that came with it.
From now on, please use aquire.
what other “words” is he going to add to his arsenal of “just words” that, in his mind, completely exonerate him from fault?
