I vaguely remember a line by Richard Pryor in Blue Collar where he expressed justified hesitation about going out and “looking for killers”. That sentiment is apropos when it come to our narcissistic, bad-things-would-never-happen-to-ME college youth.
Despite warnings about drug gang violence, US college students are starting their annual “spring break” party on Mexican beaches, bringing dollars that will help cushion the economic slump in Mexico.
Some in the industry worry, however, that a surge in drug cartel killings, which has sparked travel warnings from the US and Canadian governments in recent days, could scare off foreigners just as Mexico needs their cash most.
In Cancun — a hedonistic Caribbean strip of hotels and discos popular with US college students on their spring hiatus — there are troops at the airport and military checkpoints along the coast road.
I sincerely hope these kids are safe from drug cartel violence. Safe from alcohol poisoning and date-rape drugs are another thing.

I have two daughters who were both schooled at home. One is a grad student now, the other an under grad. Neither has ever gone on any “Spring Break” vacation.

Young adults & Teens all have the invincibility attitude – it can’t happen to me, but unfortunately it does. I just hope the cartels don’t decide to kidnap them & hold them hostage for money or concessions from our
Illegal Prez. The cartels would think nothing about killing, raping or or even worse to American females or males.

Even if there were no problems in Mexico, given the current state of our economy and given how much the student population adores Obama, if they had to go to spring break, why not do it in the U.S. and keep their dollars here and help their beloved leader?
I guess I should feel fortunate I’ve never partaken in those “activities”, I just find other things to do where I live – go see movies, call a friend or two, etc etc
