There is clearly a difference, ideologically, in approach. While black Republicans are routinely denigrated as sellouts, one would have to believe the assumption is that black Democrats would bring more harmony and unity when they run things.
Maybe you should ask someone in Detroit….
Nowhere is Michigan’s brain drain on greater display than in the Detroit City Council chambers.
My hopes for Detroit’s future faded as I watched the tape of last Tuesday’s council meeting, the one that considered the Cobo Center expansion deal.
It was a tragic circus, a festival of ignorance that confirmed the No. 1 obstacle to Detroit’s progress is the bargain basement leaders that city voters elect. The black nationalism that is now the dominant ideology of the council was on proud display, both at the table and in the audience.
Speakers advocating for the deal were taunted by the crowd and cut short by Council President Monica Conyers, who presided over the hearing like an angry bulldog; whites were advised by the citizens to, “Go home.”
I’m sure many of you remember the video in which Ms. Conyers, using the appropriate decorum, referred to a fellow council member as “Shrek“. Meanwhile, Detroit is one of those major cities where more people are leaving and anyone who wants to move there is asked “Why?”
I believe Ms. Monica Conyers is the wife of U.S. Congressman John Conyers of Michigan representing the Detroit area. If so, they are a match made in heaven.
Detroit is a pretty F’ed up place. I would know, considering I’m from there, and live right next to it (literally – I live on the border of it). I have to say though, despite all the negative stuff we hear about, the people there are some of the nicest folks you can meet.
I think that the behavior and attitude exemplified by Mrs Conyers is a major reason that many black men take up with white women — a very high percentage of black women just don’t respect black men, but rather despise them and seek to treat them the same way they treat boys.
Now, of course, some black men who take up with white women imagine that they’re “sticking it to The Man.” But I’m not talking about small-minded racists like that, I’m talking about decent men (who happen to be black) who have given up on finding a suitable mate within their immediate “pool” of potential mates.
