Malkin And No-Compassion Conservatives

As much as I appreciate Michelle Malkin and other prominent conservatives and their contributions, they are walking a fine line between delivering an important  message and being down right out-of-touch and mean.

With this well-oiled propaganda campaign buoying his efforts, President Obama used his State of the Nation address last night to advance his push for a massive government home foreclosure plan that will help “responsible homeowners avoid foreclosure.”

But a closer look at ACORN’s sob stories shows that the prototypical foreclosure “victims” don’t deserve an ounce of sympathy — or a cent of our money.

While there have been some unscrupulous dealings going on, not all of those who’ve been foreclosed on are America’s “losers”.

I don’t know how Michelle Malkin earns her money, but I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable being able to contribute to prominent publications, appear as a regular national television pundit, fly all over the country videotaping protests, while dissing people less blessed.

While there are people who intentionally got in over their heads and now have their hands out aided by criminal organizations like ACORN, many people just plain ol’ lost their jobs. In some cases, when they fell behind in their mortgages, their lender wouldn’t accept anything but full repayment, thus setting up the snowball towards foreclosure.

These people aren’t losers. They don’t consider themselves victims, haven’t sought after (and received) a taxpayer bailout, and have tried to right their ships despite what happened. But to have people like Michelle, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Rick Santelli, and all the others quick to call PEOPLE losers and lump those who tried to do the right thing and had genuine back luck in with those who just wanted to game the system, is the very antithesis of what compassionate conservatism was supposed to be.

In fact, it makes us all look mean.

I’m not being thin-skinned here and know Michelle and the others aren’t referring to those who played by the rules and met with one of life’s speed bumps. But when talking about the “losers”, every attempt should be made to mention the two categories of people involved. The appearance of lumping everyone into the same group gives the Randi Rhodes’, Rachel Maddows, and Alan Colmes’ of the world their “asshole Republican” talking points for years.

I would never hope Michelle Malkin would go through what my family has endured over the last year, but I sincerely believe she (and the noted others) would choose their words carefully if all of a sudden, bad things happened in their lives. Sure, it’s easy to tell people to “pull themselves up by the bootstraps” when you’re essentially set for life, but don’t forget who your audience is and insult them.

I understand the anger, but direct it at those in government and the private sector who caused this mess and are shielding themselves from blame.

Maybe Michelle Malkin truly believes “those foreclosure victims deserve no sympathy”, but while working at Fox in the 90′s, a VP once told us “The people you screw over on the way up, are the people you meet on the way down.”

Heaven forbid, Malkin goes through what we did, but if this economy starts claiming more high-profile personalities, I sincerely doubt she’d want the people’s response to be, “Good!”

I agree. MM often has some valid points but In my opinion she would benefit by softening her edge a bit. ie more compassion. Monica Crowley has been in the same boat of late.

I think it’s just she is so sick of what is going on as am I. I believe she knows that people hit speed bumps, she has said that. I think she got tired of including it because time and time again it has come out that this was not the case with the people they prop up in the news and in articles. We aren’t losing our home but are to the point of trying to file bankruptcy and I do not take offense to what she says because I know we are not losers. It seems to me though that most have put themselves in that situation and very few just hit speed bumps.
    I love you both Bob!

As a a conservative its so easy to get mad with all thats going on. Seems like were in a losing war atm and its very frustrating. I understand your point totally Bob and your right there is 2 groups, one who is doing their best to pay their bills but are getting snowed under and the other group who are not responsible for themselves and look to the One to save them.
I also understand MM’s anger and when angry its very easy to paint in broad strokes.

Although to be honest, Bob. ACORN would never help you.

I think the “anonymous” post there is spam..

anyway, that’s damn disheartening to hear..especially since she’s so damn cute too…ugh..she needs compassion AND understanding…that goes without saying

Mauser’s got a point there. Neither would Fannie & Freddie, Dodds, Frank, or any of those other sub-prime gasoline artists. And who knows what this new program will do for future Franklin Raines and Jim Johnsons? I’d be willing to bet there’s a sizable lineup of already-in-the-loop “losers” who will fit conveniently into the new “affordable housing” scheme.

We all know there’ll be a few choice PR cases flogged by the MM but are we really ready to believe that by the time the bottom-feeders get their turn at the pot that there would be any left?

MM should keep in mind the ones who really have suffered at the hands of easy money. But if the massive foreclosure plan ever was about compassion per se, I’m willing to bet there’d be a whole different plan.

I used to enjoy MM when she first came on the Fox scene but for the past year I tend to tune her out. Crowley and L.Ingraham are starting to wear on me also. I was raised on the ‘kill em with kindness’ adage and the Dims won’t listen to the hate mongering anyway. Probably because they are much better at it
