Been having that same issue. (And the lack of a decent buffer indicator is an issue with the player). I have to wonder about the efficiency of the codec being used based on the huge amount of data being transferred vs the quality.
I have found the same thing with the Videos. They require Large buffer
to load the Video, especially if the internet connection is running slower than normal speed. BRFan, you are correct in allowing it to get stored in the buffer before playing. Doo, an ass can’t even begin to describe this dipshit.

I’m having trouble with them too. I guess they need time to load. What I do is start them, pause it after a couple of seconds for about a minute, and play it again. If the video starts to get choppy again, I do the same thing over again.
