Quote Of The Day

So much for the new era of compassion and openness.

Can I make a comment that is unrelated to the economy very quickly? And it has to do with Washington. My children’s school was cancelled today — Because of what? Some ice?

As my children pointed out, in Chicago school is never cancelled, in fact my 7-year-old pointed out that you’d go outside for recess. You wouldn’t even stay indoors. We’re going to have to try to apply some flinty Chicago toughness to this.

I’m saying, when it comes to the weather, folks in Washington don’t seem to be able to handle things.
Barack Obama, to reporters about his stimulus package

The ice storm that paralyzed D.C. probably kept many from getting to school. Then again, if you’re President Obama, traffic is the last thing he need worry about.

We anxiously await the blowback on this one.

I lived in NoVa for a while in the early 90′s. Snow does paralyze the city, but I’d say in part it’s because there are so many people who are not locals. Even in perfect conditions, the drivers suck. I mean, at least here in the northwest you can predict things like people can’t intellectualize the concept of Merging. But around DC, you have bad drivers from all over the world, so there’s no telling which chapter of the Manual of Stupid Maneuvers they’ve been studying. And Diplomat plates are there as a warning sign.

As said, the problem in N.VA and DC is that they don’t get just snow…it snows, then melts a littlle, then freezes, then melts etc etc. If it was just snow, cool. Not many people can drive on ice. But, The One doesn’t have to worry about driving anyway.

Plus, given their performance, Chicago schools are just day care anyway.

Having lived in the DC area for 10+ years when it snows, the town shuts down – they are not nor have they never been prepared to take care of snow because it is so intermittent … and usually doesn’t last long – BUT when it does … it’s nice to just chill and relax when the snow falls and all is quiet in the capital …

Can someone please explain to this guy that he is not in Chicago! DC is on the borderline of the south. That means that they don’t get the snow and ice Chicago does.
