Even with the most historic day EVER coming, the NAACP’s managed to find something wrong and racist with the planned festivities.
They’re part of a long standing tradition that will soon become a part of Presidential history.
The head of the Alabama NAACP, however, wants Mobile’s Azalea Trail Maids to stay home on Inauguration Day, claiming the group reminds him of slavery.
“These are not just regular costumes. These are the costumes that remind someone of the plantation in Gone with the Wind,” Edward Vaughn said in a phone interview.
Vaughn went on to say the group would be the laughing stock of the Inauguration.
These dresses would never withstand “What Not To Wear” scrutiny, but they’re hardly provocative.
However, in an effort to appease the hypersensitivities of the Alabama NAACP, maybe the ladies should wear rap video-ho stitchings. You know, clothing more identifiable with the black community.

Wow, that poor delicate little man. How long was he a slave? I can see him not wanting reminders of his past…
What? Why are you laughing?
Yes, and how about the notice out to the all the Restaurants in DC serving asparagus? “please remove “spears” from your menus, replace with “tips” if necessary”. …..
OMFG
Now if *I* had dared to utter that last paragraph, i’d be one hell of a racist mo’fo
Sometimes bein’ white sucks. I can’t “say it like it is” like you can, Bob..
National Assimilation of Always Complaining People…
I saw this online and just cracked up. Tara, huh? Well I guess Alabama needs to cut down every fookin live oak tree with moss hanging from the branches to appease these kinds of nuts.
This nation will never get beyond racism until blacks, like this NAACP, and the elitist left quit dragging it out of their hip pocket and flashing the card in our faces. Constant reminders of black victim hood.
The guilt coat is one that I refuse to wear. I never owned a slave, my father never owned a slave, my grandfather never owned a salve and my great grandfather was in Germany during the Civil War.
Besides that, I know about 20 teenage girls that would give their eye teeth to wear a dress like that and get paid to sit on a bench at Cypress Gardens having her picture taken by tourists.
Symbols? Gestures? Underlying meaning and intent?
Doesn’t their own Holy Man dismiss these physical and visual homilies when it comes to putting his hand over his heart for the national anthem, or wearing the flag on his lapel. Wasn’t the official spokesperson’s response, “Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn’t. In no way was he making any sort of statement, and any suggestions to the contrary is ridiculous.”
Americans, NAACP, school children, and The Azalea Trail Maids, memorize and repeat after me. “Sometimes you do, sometimes you don’t. You’re not in any way making any sort of statement, and any suggestions to the contrary is ridiculous.”
Likewise, playing “Hail to the Chief” should be just as 50/50, hit-or-miss, “Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t.” Whatever. And don’t worry about rising when the President enters a room. Don’t worry if you don’t put your hand over your heart, or say the Pledge of Allegiance. He doesn’t mind one way or the other. No, really. Senators, and Congressman alike should take the New ‘Tude out for a test ride.
While we’re at it, PEO shouldn’t worry too much about raising his right hand and swearing his Oath on the Bible. “Sometimes presidents do. Sometimes they don’t. In no way will he be making any sort of …. “.
SID-SID – “Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.” Or OAFe, the official Obama Answer For everything.
Meaning is whatever he says it is at any given moment at his convenience. No more. No less. Move on.
PS. SID-SID is highly adaptable as a good “Get Out of Racist Jail” Card, and worth mastering.
damn stereotypes…..jeeze. makes me think of your “Ludacris endorsement” B and R video on youtube, Bob
National Assimilation of Always Complaining People
I love that LOL
i wonder if this is making some sort of statement as to the gown/dress ms. hussein is wearing to the coronation.
This cannot be true. With The Messiah’s coronation, racial harmony will be assured; guns will go silent; America will, once again…since Carter’s reign, be loved.
God …. how do these people survive?
My four year-old daughter is obviously a racist in traiing. I know I’ve seen some of her Disney princesses with those kinds of dresses on. And I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Bugs Bunny with one of those dresses on as well.
damnit….in training.
Why not ban cotton and tobacco products? Doesn’t that remind people of slavery. They were both big crops in the South before the Civil War. If banning something because it reminds you of an evil past becomes the norm, you have just opened up a Pandora’s box. Why not ban white people? Don’t they remind people of slavery? Here’s a suggestion. How about dealing with the present. I guess looking at the past is a good way of avoiding the present.
With all the serious issues facing the African American community, is this all this person can worry about?
I think the dresses look rather silly, but I’m AA and it doesn’t bother me.
It’s sad that this once fine organization has become irrelevant.
I think race-baiting, or prolonging and aggravating racial tensions, should be considered a hate-crime.
I detest when people in power throw their weight around over nothing but their own jaundiced POV. Eleven of the Azalea Trail Maids (22%) are young women of color. Are they supposed to be ashamed of themselves because frilly dresses and big hats remind some old man of slavery?
Hoss, your little girl sounds like my youngest niece. If she saw these women in a parade, she’d aspire to be one of them!
