    G’day Bob,

I wondered where you had been. It’s been very quiet here on B&R. Thought it may have been a rerun of Thanksgiving … In a way, I suppose it is … for Conservative minded people.

Initially, I thought that you were bowled over by the Divine Wind from Chicago. Decided to do a bit of research on Chicago: Word History: … first recorded in 1688 in a French document, where it appears as Chigagou, an Algonquian word meaning “onion field.” … wild onion or garlic grew profusely in the area. The name of the field or meadow was first transferred to the river and then was given to the city in 1830. More than one bad smell coming out of Chicago.

    Mr. Parks,

I saw news of the storm and just knew you’d been hit. I’m keeping you, and all those without power in the cold, in my prayers. I’ll be here when you get back.

Thank you for figuring out how to send up a flare to let us know you’re hanging in there. :)

    Hey Bob!
Hope you’re enjoying the cold weather … I used to love it when we’d get snowed in, always had on hand fire wood, all the fixing for homemade bread, hot cocoa and soup …

In ’93 we moved back to MD after being gone from that area for about 8 years … big dang ice storm knocked power out for 2 weeks, the mother-in-law lost power to her home for the duration, she got to stay with us, once she realized her power wasn’t coming back on anytime soon (we didn’t lose ours due to underground utilities) …

I am hoping you’re enjoying the quiet of the snow, the time without the stresses of the electronics and spending time with those you love.

Sending warm thoughts your way …

You’ve got an ice storm, Houston and New Orleans got snow a couple of days ago….. damn this global warming.

Global Warming? Haven’t noticed it here – it’s 10:20 p.m., Clear 79 deg F and I’ve just turned the AC off. I suppose I’d better pull my head in and offer you blokes some form of commiserations. …. Can’t think of anything at the moment though. I have seen snow once and actually walked through a glacier on a guided tour in the Swiss alps – slid out the other end as an ice block, sore muscles and bones. Definitely wouldn’t make a Northwest Frontiersman. So, I think I’ll just sit back and watch it all on the Internet. Wish you were here Bob.

So sorry about your power loss. Been there, done that and certainly didn’t enjoy it. Hope you’re keeping warm and your wait for the utility company will be a short one.

Hi bob. I lived through the worst freezing rain storm of recorded meteorogical history back in January 1998, yours seems to be almost as bad from what i’ve seen.

I hope you still have power. I know how bad it can get. 30 people died in 1998 from carbon monoxide poisoning from failed generators and from the cold following the storm.

I’m giving you all the best during these difficult times.

Hope to hear from you again soon, Bob.

Bob, it is cold here in the Myrtle Beach area as well. I mean I had to wear a sweatshirt and windbreaker playing golf today. Whew, I mean tough weather.

OK, OK, sorry for rubbing it in but this is why I moved south. You can strike back when hurricane season arrives.

Myabe Deval ought to be a little more responsive to the“energy security” of his constituency. My God, what a beacon of light he is with his “several days”…how about some “I’m going to be in somebodys ass 24/7 until the lights get back on.”

Bob, I’d implore you to move to Indiana, although I can’t promise the weather would be any better. Around here we say “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 10 minutes, it’ll change.”

We are expecting our first major blizzard of the winter that should last till Monday morning here in North Dakota and surrounding areas.

Hopefully it isn’t as bad as many think it might be.

    Hi Bob,
Sorry to hear you are in one of the areas without power. I would lend you a Generator, but unfortunately all three of my portable units are in use at this time & may be for another two weeks or so. Some of our Hill Town got hit hard & many power lines are totally torn down & will take weeks to get them back up. Our code 40 Emergency has been called off & some of us are still answering calls from our homes. We have hundreds of homes without power at this time & many are having cellars flooded since sump pumps are no longer working. We have crews just doing pump outs & others checking on older residents to make sure they are safe & warm. Many Firehouses are open as emergency shelters, providing food & shelter for those needing it.
Bob, if one of my Generators becomes available I will email you & if you are still without power, will try to get one over to you.
