Attached to the U.S. District Court complaint is an FBI affidavit, excerpted below, alleging that Illinois Governor Blagojevich was caught on wiretaps noting that the Senate seat “is a fucking valuable thing, you just don’t give it away for nothing.”
During a wiretapped November 10 call, a frustrated and financially strapped Blagojevich referred to Obama as a “motherfucker” and said that he would not appoint an ally of the President-elect to the Senate vacancy if “I don’t get anything.” Referring to Obama, Blagojevich exclaimed, “Fuck him. For nothing? Fuck him.” In a November 11 conversation, Blagojevich remarked that he knew Obama wanted Valerie Jarrett, a longtime confidante, to succeed him, “but they’re not willing to give me anything except appreciation. Fuck them.”
I don’t suspect a President Obama will be pardoning Rod Blagojevich any time soon.

And it appears Illinois’ First Lady is hip deep in this mess as well…
Illinois first lady Patricia Blagojevich’s official Web site says she’s “committed to spreading the governor’s message.”
That’s putting it mildly, according to the 76-page FBI affidavit released Tuesday accusing her husband, Gov. Rod Blagojevich, and his chief of staff of corruption.
The first lady was not arrested Tuesday, but federal prosecutors nevertheless allege that she was engaged in the governor’s attempts to sell Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder and to intimidate The Chicago Tribune. The court document mentions the first lady, though not by name, 19 times in six graphic sections.
Let’s see how quickly these birds start singing.
I’m quite fond of Chicago-style pizza. Lou Malnati’s for instance. I’m sure there are more niche places, but being from Iowa, I’ll take what I can get.
On a side note, I have a feeling this kind of auctioning to the highest bidder for political favors is by no means new or limited to this guy. He was just the schmuck that got caught.

Illinois is completely controlled by the left. When you hear the phrase “Chicago (Illinois)” or “Chicago democrat machine” politician, those are not endearing epithets.
The only good things to come out of Illinois that I can think of are Abraham Lincoln, the Bears, and the Blackhawks.

Firstly, forgive me for being both politically and geographically (and a whole lot of other things) ignorant/naive as to the makeup of America (i.e. locations of places, which to you, are national landmarks; as well as who-is-up-who in each individual state. But, I am learning. Why just the other day I was watching a movie and a scene depicted a car moving along a freeway, destination Los Angeles airport, when a signpost flashed by with LAX on it. Being smarter than the average bear, and having passed cypher at grade 9 level, I (hopefully) now know your abbreviation for the LA airport. it did have me stonkered though, until I saw that sign.
As well, knowing how you blokes are fanatics, on things peculiar to the US (i.e. sports etc.), I’d better tread warily here. Your state of Illinois, for good or for bad, seems to be perpetually in the news, and all seemingly, linked with some form of corruption. Last night, as it would happen, I was viewing and recording the movie “The Untouchables” and of course, we all know of the characters featured in that movie. As the storyline developed, I began to think that it wasn’t at all, that much different than what goes on today. Maybe you blokes need a new Elliott Ness to bust a few of the major players. But, the US is not alone as Australia has similar problems, but of a smaller scale. Here in Thailand, the nation’s politicians have finessed the art of corruption and I think, in all sincerity, they could teach Western pollies /officials a thing or two on how to do it whilst maintaining a cheesy smile.
A bit long winded, but my question is: Notwithstanding B&R contributors, is there anything good coming out of Illinois?

I always thought there was no point in bleeping something out when it’s perfectly obvious from the context which profanity was used.
The good news we will now be entertained over the next couple of years with this 3 ring circus, Blagojevich, Obama, Rezco, and how many others.
Heck, I was looking forward to Jack Bauer in January but now he seems boring by comparison.
How the state could have elected this slimeball is impossible for me to imagine and how the country could have elected his compatriot as President is also beyond my comprehension.
Still can’t believe America thought it would be wise to elect an Illinois politician President. I’m more and more ashamed of my state every day.

I thought the fact alone that Obama is a Chicago-machine democrat was enough to preclude him from being president. Let me guess before the denials start, Barry “Mr. Magoo” Obama stumbled through Illinois politics without ever having met, or heard of, Blagojevich. At least I’m sure the left would buy that, they bought into the rest of his bullshit.
Hopefully he rats out The One to save his own hide.

I expect profanity from Chicago thugs. BarryO gave a flip-off to Shrillary and Mac, Blagojerk fits right in with the Midwest branch of the Sopranos. Can’t believe that there’s another corrupt politician in Illinois. He blew it, could have been president in 2012.
The continuing saga in a long standing tradition of Illinois politics. Lincoln is absolutely turning in his grave. There’s much more there, if only it were investigated truthfully … that is … BHO snuck in under the radar, but there are those the know the truth.
