I would hate to think this investigation was still in process prior to November 4th, because I’d be willing to bet the growing list of incumbents being snared in this bribery scandal wouldn’t have gotten reelected had the people known.
Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner has been charged with accepting a $1,000 bribe and then lying about taking the money in a widening federal corruption inquiry.
A 12-page affidavit filed in US District Court alleges that Turner was surreptitiously videotaped accepting the cash in his district office on Aug. 3, 2007, in exchange for pushing for a liquor license for the Roxbury nightclub Dejavu. Included with the affidavit are two photographs of Turner allegedly accepting the bribe. In one image, Turner’s trademark white goatee is clearly visible as folded green bills are pressed into his hand.
As this scandal (that has now ensnared two politicos) grows, it will be very interesting to see just what this does to the image of the Democrat Party. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and Democrats have absolute power in Massachusetts and a lot of hands that like being handed cash.
There is an easy answer to this, but I am sure the politicians would get away with it still…The government wants to watch us (Traffic cameras, ‘crime cameras’, etc)…lets give them the same. With todays technology, we could have cameras in every office…but like I said, they will work around it.
