Hey, that “worst fight” clip mentioned above – I think they stole one scene from Lost In Space – when Kirk picks up the big rock and heaves it over his head at the monster, remember the LIS Giant! He did the same thing.

So I was a little young when ST came out and watched LIS instead.

The early years of TNG were the best, I think.

What I’ve always wanted to see was a Special Environment Detachment that would carry on adventures in non-human friends places.
Planets of molten lead, hazardous atmospheres, intense gravities, crazy temperatures, and that kind of duty would of course go to black people.

well… I’m also a big, big fan of DS9, which was the Guy’s series with lots of fighting going on, and some questionnable ethical decisions such as Captain Sisko using a fake recording to convince the romulans to join the war, and when they figure it out, Garak has the romulans killed by having their ship blown up in an “accidental” fashion. With Sisko claiming at the end if he ever had to do this over again, he would.

But you must remember, I was born in a world where tv shows were all becoming PC crap. Geez, I actually grew up to the “Captain Planet” cartoon that was this giant “shame on you” scheme to get kids to fight pollution.

My preference for Picard is in his character. For instance, in Star Trek:First Contact, his “a line has to be drawn here” speech gave me goosebumps.

But yeah, Kirk was cool, he was the first white man to kiss a black woman on television, and he kicked ass (except against that lizard creature…worst fight scene EVER)

I can certainly understand and I agree that The Original Series was a much, MUCH more influential series than The Next Generation was. But I did watch both series and I prefer Picard’s distant attitude, his professionalism, and his hatred of seeing anyone sitting in his chair than Kirk’s happy-go-lucky attitude and friendliness.

At any rate, Picard held more credibility as an officer than Kirk ever did.

what is a tad funny though is because of lack of funds to make tv shows at the time, they had to reuse a lot of stuff.

Did you notice that the U.S.S. Constellation (seen in the 2nd screen) has the same numbers in its registry than the U.S.S. Enterprise? Instead of NCC-1701, the Constellation has NCC-1017. both are of the same class, of course (basically they just took the same model and stuck new stickers on it for the name of the ship)
