Christmas Trek-List

This is what I get for getting into a Star Trek discussion.

“The Doomsday Machine” was my favorite episode and these remastered versions of the original (and superior) series look like a real winner.

Guess I know what to ask my fiancee for Christmas.

    Marla,

    That was hilarious!

    All I can say is:

    “Denny Crane.”

  2. Marla says:

Hey, that “worst fight” clip mentioned above – I think they stole one scene from Lost In Space – when Kirk picks up the big rock and heaves it over his head at the monster, remember the LIS Giant! He did the same thing.

So I was a little young when ST came out and watched LIS instead.

The early years of TNG were the best, I think.

  3. Mary Ann says:

psst…fboiteau…I agree with you on Picard. But if I could only choose one Captain…it would be Sheridan from Babylon 5.

  4. Cameron says:

“It is known that the Klingon language did not have a word for ‘surrender’ until they met Kirk.” :-)

He got laid, came close to starting interplanetary wars, and kicked ass personally every other show.

AND managed to keep his job. That was the best part.

  5. Bob says:

What I’ve always wanted to see was a Special Environment Detachment that would carry on adventures in non-human friends places.
Planets of molten lead, hazardous atmospheres, intense gravities, crazy temperatures, and that kind of duty would of course go to black people.

    Joking.

But it would be a special effects dream.

You can keep those fragile Star Trek ships. Give me an Imperial II class Star Destroyer any day. Hell, Laforge farting in engineering could cause a warp core breach.

here’s the link. It’s so bad that its hilarious

  8. fboiteau says:

well… I’m also a big, big fan of DS9, which was the Guy’s series with lots of fighting going on, and some questionnable ethical decisions such as Captain Sisko using a fake recording to convince the romulans to join the war, and when they figure it out, Garak has the romulans killed by having their ship blown up in an “accidental” fashion. With Sisko claiming at the end if he ever had to do this over again, he would.

But you must remember, I was born in a world where tv shows were all becoming PC crap. Geez, I actually grew up to the “Captain Planet” cartoon that was this giant “shame on you” scheme to get kids to fight pollution.

My preference for Picard is in his character. For instance, in Star Trek:First Contact, his “a line has to be drawn here” speech gave me goosebumps.

But yeah, Kirk was cool, he was the first white man to kiss a black woman on television, and he kicked ass (except against that lizard creature…worst fight scene EVER)

  9. Bob says:

TNG was way too talky and PC for my liking.

There was something cool about Kirk. He got laid, came close to starting interplanetary wars, and kicked ass personally every other show.

THAT was the Star Trek I grew to love.

  10. fboiteau says:

now what is THAT supposed to mean?

I can certainly understand and I agree that The Original Series was a much, MUCH more influential series than The Next Generation was. But I did watch both series and I prefer Picard’s distant attitude, his professionalism, and his hatred of seeing anyone sitting in his chair than Kirk’s happy-go-lucky attitude and friendliness.

At any rate, Picard held more credibility as an officer than Kirk ever did.

  12. fboiteau says:

ARRGH sry for doublepost, dunno what happened…

Anyway my favourite starship captain is Picard, and not Kirk.

But I was born in the 80s…

  13. fboiteau says:

hmm, Being younger may have skewed my view on the whole subject, but I do believe my favourite US.S.

  14. fboiteau says:

what is a tad funny though is because of lack of funds to make tv shows at the time, they had to reuse a lot of stuff.

Did you notice that the U.S.S. Constellation (seen in the 2nd screen) has the same numbers in its registry than the U.S.S. Enterprise? Instead of NCC-1701, the Constellation has NCC-1017. both are of the same class, of course (basically they just took the same model and stuck new stickers on it for the name of the ship)

I saw a remastered episode on television – they are indeed very nifty.

  16. NYdonkeyrider says:

Actually, it looks like a giant colon and George Takei is looking back like he’s asking for permission to take a shuttle in there solo.

  17. Bob says:

    I didn’t design the thing, Henry… :-P

  18. Henry says:

    Blaspheme!!

Of course “The Doomsday Machine” was your favorite episode: It looks like a giant space doobie! Heh heh,
