So Barney Frank now claims It was Republican opposition to regulation that caused the bank meltdown…?
Let’s not forget what really happened, when it happened.
During 2004 congressional hearings on the fraudulent bookkeeping practices of those running Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Barney Frank said,
But I have seen nothing in here that suggests that the safety and soundness of an issue, and I think it serves us badly to raise safety and soundness as a kind of a general (?) when it does not seem to be an issue.
Republicans back then WERE calling for the oversight and regulation of the very institutions that brought about the fiscal mess we find ourselves in today. It was Democrats like Barney Frank who, back then, resisted.
It’s a good thing the majority of the American voters know the facts….

Let’s add one more fact — Artur Davis, D-Birmingham — is the only congressional Democrat to offer his apologies.
He publicly stated there was not enough oversight, and that he and his colleagues should have heeded the warning signs. AND he called out members of his own party for whistling past the crisis.
Davis is a stand-up guy. Pretty smart, too.
Liar, liar, pants on fire. Your nose is longer than a telephone wire.
Actually, no. I’m not lying.
Hannity had Davis on his show.
AND I know Artur Davis. I used to cover him back when I was a teevee news weasel. I disagree with him on several points, but he’s a stand-up guy.
I think Swampy was referring to Frank, not you….
