If you want to see people practice pure “identity politics” look at the 43 white men in a row elected to the presidency. That’s only explained by people voting on a strict gender and color line.
Bob -
Hello from Iraq. This is why it is clear that voting in the USA is priveledge and not a right. When idiots (regardless of racial make-up) are allowed as much say in the affairs of government as sane men, we are doomed to democracy rather than a republic. And that is where we are headed. sad but true. Lenin referred to folks in the West as idiots…useful idiots, but idots nonetheless…it appears he was correct.
It isn’t that voting isn’t a right, if one is consenting to government it most certainly is, it’s that not everyone takes the responsibility that goes along with that right seriously. Here was three examples of people who, if all things being equal and true, are voting for Obama not for the responsible reasons of agreeing with him or even in thinking he might do a better job, but because of his skin color.
It just proves that in some cases, if not most or all, the informed voter is a myth.
It takes 3 people to do that?
“I just don’t agree with the amount of pigment in McCain’s skin.”
Blaine, your comment on the “43 white men in a row………” is about as illogical and/or self serving as possible. There were only “white males” running for President. If you were really trying to look at it logically (probably an impossibility in your case) you would note that states that had black, female, indian and other diverse candidates pitted against a “white male” still elected a minority person oftentimes with large white and/or white male majorities. La. is a recent example. Virginia elected a black governor. We republicans in Virginia tried to elect a black Senator but the incumbent, Chuck Robb, beat him. Elizabeth Dole is the Senator from North Carolina. There are plenty more but what is the point you are on your own form of “jihad” where logic or truth is expendable.
Let’s face it,
So?
An electorate that will not elect anyone who is not a white male president wouldn’t waste it’s time nominating one.
It really worries me that Socialism could be voted in because people don’t know and don’t think about what’s going on.
They just want to feel and then vote on an emotion.
Hey BLaine –
Psst.
They own the joint.
Blaine – the parties are the ones who nominate the candidates, they are the ones who give the choice and for the first time there is a viable non-white candidate for President, one that from the looks of it now is likely to win with votes that come from whites as well as all the other colors of the human skin rainbow and you are going to be a bitch about the fact they didn’t do it earlier?
At least they are doing it now.
Now if only he were someone I could vote for ….
That’s a pretty willful misinterpretation of what I said.
My point is either you believe that white men are/were the only qualified choice for president (a camp composed of racists or those in serious denial of racism) for 43 elections in a row – or you believe that white men won the Presidency 43 times in a row because the game was rigged so only white males could win.
This rigging mechanism is known as “identity politics” – but now that Stern did a half ass case of “proving” black folks do that it’s worth discussing this fault in the BLACK community?
Stern’s stupid video doesn’t prove a single one of those people are voting for Obama because he’s BLACK. How do you know they won’t vote for McCain because he’s a REPUBLICAN? You jumped right to the conclusion you wanted to reach on very flimsy evidence.
And so you expected us to vote for Jesse Jackson?
Is this based on merits or race? What about gender? Blaine, you are representative of one of the greatest tragedies to befall this country: the fall of meritocracy.
Yes I kiled meritocracy because ONLY WHITE MEN HAVE BEEN QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT.
Now I see.
All apologies.
Those who came before me Blaine choose those they did for their reasons and not mine. I certainly do not believe that white men are the only possible qualified choices out there not only because I am not a racist, but because the qualifications for the office of President here in the USA is: born here, lived 14 years as a resident, and by at least 35 years of age. No where in there is race mentioned, no where in there is sex mentioned. Under the terms stated they could have elected a black female ex-slave and that person would have been qualified.
I also reject the idea that it has been rigged. Once again those who came before us choose those they did for their reasons and not mine. Simply not nominating nonwhites would not mean that they were rigged. Simply not nominating a woman (there has been female candidates for President and Vice President before though not many from the major parties) would not mean they were rigged. Our ancestors rigged nothing. They choose the people they believed to be the best based on merit (and sadly they did not seek outside their race to find people of merit there), but we have shown that we do now.
If Obama meets Articel 2 Section 1 requirements then he is qualified to be President. But that alone isn’t good enough reason to vote for the man and more than it would any white man. I would vote for Dr. Walter Williams or Dr. Thomas Sowell, both professors of economics with doctorates and both men are darker than Obama. I would vote for Justice Clarence Thomas, because among other things he can read the Constitution and interpret it better than most Americans can, and I’d vote for General Colin Powell or Secretary Rice. I’d vote for Bob Parks here were I in his district and if he were running for President I’d vote for him then as well.
Do not tell me who I am or tell me what my motives are when it comes to anything you …….
Your baiting us aren’t you?
