The DiCaprio Effect

Maybe people were just a little tired of Leo telling everyone how to vote, or just tired of Leonardo DiCaprio period.

Rival Hollywood studios sensed weak wannasee around Warner Bros’ debut of the war on terror spy thriller Body of Lies but no one expected it to underperform this badly. Its weekend estimate is only $13 million, not the $20M that the studio expected, and that’s disastrous for the huge budget/high-profile drama, after taking in just $4.4 million Friday from 2,710 dates. ”For what it cost to make and spent to market it, this is less than a satisfying result,” one rival studio exec noted. How humilating that Oscar-touted talent like Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott were dogged at the box office and wound up #3. (And, to think, Russell had to gain 50 pounds for the role.) But that’s what happens when the script, even though based on a book, doesn’t measure up.

Number three to a talking chihuahua movie and low-budget horror flick…

When the offers start to dry up, these partisan actors can make a choice. Entertainment or politics.

One we have to pay to support; one we don’t.

Actually, this piece of garbage slander is aptly named.

I don’t think that even they themselves realize the irony there.

They don’t get my money. I don’t go to the movies, don’t rent movies, don’t watch them on TV. The last movie I saw as “Shrek” and only because my son, who works at Disney DVD, gave it to me for Christmas. I am so far out of the Hollywood loop. I don’t even recognize their faces at sites like FoxNews’s entertainment section. I could not pick DiCaprio out of a lineup. Sorry, but the ‘stars’ mean zilch to me.

My entertainment is a good college football game. Or watching Tiger Woods hit a golf ball (the guy is just amazing). Give me the Discovery or Animal channel any day. The Dog Whisperer is my hero! :-)
