Lewis, A Lazy Media, And Their Race Cards

The only question I have for Congressman John Lewis is, “What took you so long?” The McCain campaign was apparently caught off guard by the the race card salvo, while many of us knew this day would officially come.

For Immediate Release
Saturday, October 11, 2008

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today issued the following statement:

“Congressman John Lewis’ comments represent a character attack against Governor Sarah Palin and me that is shocking and beyond the pale. The notion that legitimate criticism of Senator Obama’s record and positions could be compared to Governor George Wallace, his segregationist policies and the violence he provoked is unacceptable and has no place in this campaign. I am saddened that John Lewis, a man I’ve always admired, would make such a brazen and baseless attack on my character and the character of the thousands of hardworking Americans who come to our events to cheer for the kind of reform that will put America on the right track.

“I call on Senator Obama to immediately and personally repudiate these outrageous and divisive comments that are so clearly designed to shut down debate 24 days before the election. Our country must return to the important debate about the path forward for America .”

Okay, let’s take off the gloves.

While Senator McCain and Governor Palin have to show some public civility, those of us often on the receiving end of liberal racist hate do not.

What set this off? Reports from a biased mainstream media of hate speech directed at Barack Obama. As I know the rules of journalism; something some in the mainstream may learn once they achieve first grade industry status, one should not report stories they can’t back up. So far innuendo has been reported as fact to further a rumor they’ve failed to substantiate.

I’ve seen one videotape with the voice of a McCain supporter screaming “Kill him!”, referring to Senator Obama? But that isn’t the norm as alleged. I’m waiting to see something, anything backing up the careless and irresponsible reporting by so-called journalists.

Where’s the first hand accounts and quotes with attribution. This is pure rumormongering, exploited by a civil rights era-has been-United States Congressman doing what Democrats do best: squelch speech by any means necessary. The race card has always been their nuclear option, and a lazy, complicit press is their convenient conduit.

It’s ironic that Congressman Lewis cites Alabama Governor George Wallace… a segregationist, racist DEMOCRAT.

Senator McCain and Governor Palin must be striking a nerve.

“Congressman John Lewis’ despicable attack on Senator McCain and Governor Palin gives us insight into his bitter partisan heart, and exemplifies the lengths that the far left will go to for a win. Barack Obama’s surrogates continue to play the race card. Obama should denounce Lewis’ statements immediately but his history tells us otherwise.”
David Webb, Host of The David Webb Show

McCain/Palin supporters are angry. Now, when liberals are angry they can (and will) freely call Republicans things that can’t be printed in most newspapers or repeated on any broadcast medium. That’s what they call “free speech”.  Liberals (white and black) free free to call black Republicans anything they can come up with, the more blatantly racist the better. McCain and Palin have done NOTHING to stoke any racial animus towards Senator Barack Obama.

However, the standard operating procedure from the left is to shout down any criticism deemed damaging to their Messiah. The issues now being brought up are valid. Despite the conventional wisdom offered by the media elite, the American people are intelligent enough to absorb the still-unresolved issues surrounding Barack Obama. Bringing up these issues is not racist.

Those who play the card (to stop the questions from being asked) are.

“The idea that Congressman John Lewis would compare Senator McCain and Governor Palin to George Wallace demonstrates his willingness to “cheapen our democracy.”

“His blatant use of the race card is pure folly on his part. Clearly, he has forgotten the racist he himself mentions is a member of his own party. The irony is the Democrats, who gave us the KKK and Jim Crow laws, are the same party, which routinely takes up one smear campaign after another– aimed at Republicans. If the Congressman wants to remind us of the Democrats racist past; please, be our guest. Next time, he may want to acknowledge the likes of Benjamin Travis Laney (Arkansas Governor); Fielding Wright (Mississippi Governor); Frank M. Dixon (Alabama Governor); William H. Murray (Oklahoma Governor); Mills E. Godwin Jr. (Governor of Virginia); and Orval Faubus (Governor of Arkansas during the Little Rock Nine crisis)—just to name a few. Next time, we’d be glad to list the former Senators if the Congressman decides he wants to play the race card!”
Eric M. Wallace, PhD, Publisher, Freedom’s Journal Magazine

The Republican candidates’ criticism aren’t stoking hate as Lewis says. Obama’s dodging of the facts are prompting the anger as many feel a genuine mystery man could steal the presidency.

Barack Obama has failed to come clean on his simple qualification to be President of the United States (provide a certified birth certificate). A constitutional crisis may be Obama’s fault. Not the result of racism.

Barack Obama has failed to come clean on the extent of his relationship with William Ayers, ACORN, and new revelations are coming out seemingly every day.

Barack Obama has failed to release his medical records, and we know how much hell would be raised if John McCain did the same. Granted, Bill Clinton declined to do the same, but that doesn’t mean precident should be one-sided. Obama, like most liberals, is supposed to be smarter than the “ordinary” American, yet he won’t release his college transcripts.

Barack Obama’s activities with the Kenyan elections and Christian prosecution aftermath has been blown off by the media, probably because black people dying isn’t considered news unless given awareness as some ditzy Hollywood celebrity’s pet project.

The fact that Senator McCain and Governor Palin is doing a lazy, partisan media’s job at informing the public about the one the world’s been waiting for. If Obama would come clean, these issues could go away. Bringing up these issues is politics, not racism.

“It should come as no surprise that Congressman John Lewis is playing the race card in order to intimidate Americans into voting for Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic Party’s far left-wing radical socialist presidential candidate. Every election cycle, Democrats use this race-bating strategy for partisan political gain.

“Despite the Democrats’ socialist policies that run counter to the best interest of black people, black Americans keep voting for Democrats because Democrats preach hatred against Republicans and get blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans and not a vote for Democrats. Deliberately, Democrats keep blacks poor, angry and voting for Democrats. Any black person who becomes self-reliant and prosperous is denigrated as a “sellout.” With this reprehensible strategy, Democrats have built their power base on the backs of poor blacks. Democrat demagogues get away with this tactic because Democrats have hidden their racist past and sold Socialism to blacks, a system that sounds good but has proven to be devastating to black communities.”
Frances Rice, Chairman, National Black Republican Association

Instead of McCain having to answer Congressman Lewis’ third rail allegations, a responsible media (no pun intended) would be asking Lewis to cite specifics. Ask the congressman when he heard these murderous shouts during McCain/Palin rallies. Ask the congressman to be specific on what racially incendiary statements either McCain or Palin made equivalent to the actions of Democrat George Wallace.

Congressman Lewis can throw out baseless race accusations and the media can report them as fact. Both are lazy, increasingly irrelevant, and they both know it.

I just hope there is enough time to keep pounding the Dems on this stuff.

I am really sickened by the antics of the left wing liberal machine and all of its components – i.e. the media, the race hustlers, and the special interests groups whose mission it is to keep black people ignorant and dependent. I am even more sickened by the blind devotion that black folks are showering on Obama.

Black America is it’s own worst enemy because we are again too lazy or stupid to examine the facts and are eating out of the hand of the “massa” the democratic party. When will we wake up? It damn embarrasing because the democratic party has no respect for us and play us like fiddles.

In the early 60’s I worked for the NY Senate. It took very little time to realize the corruption I was seeing from both Parties. The Democrats were, by far the most corrupt bunch of losers I have possibly imagined. That is when I decided to affiliate myself to the Republican Party. Fortunately, I was able to find a much more honorable occupation & left
I was naive then, as are our young people today & couldn’t believe Politicians blatant disregard for their constituents. I decided it was an occupation I wanted nothing to do with since I had moral principles of conduct I have to live by. Unfortunately for many black people they think the Democrats are their friends & are used by the Dems for their votes, nothing more.

  6. Hoss Says:

Wouldn’t McCain and/or Palin have to be democrats for the comparison to Wallace to be appropriate? Maybe they can throw something in about Bull Connor, another favored boogeyman – and democrat. Let’s really start digging into some racism, maybe some more about Barry and his Buddy Louie Farrakhan (who Barry’s church says epitomizes greatness“).

  7. chrisbg99 Says:

Unfortunately the Dems have managed to rewrite history and replace the word Democrat with Republican when it comes to the history of race relations in this country.

Pretty soon they’ll be telling us that Lincoln was one of the great Democrat presidents and no one will care.

  8. CARNEYVA Says:

The ugliness of the Palin and McCain rallies is not to be denied, minimized or glossed over. Let the whole world see that imbecilic woman who denounced Obama as an “Arab” – as if that in itself is some sort of crime – and McCain’s half-assed response that Obama is a “decent family man” – as if Arabs (and, by implication, Arab-Americans) cannot possibly be both American AND decent family men. Remember George W. Bush’s comment about Iraqis? “Just because people don’t look like Americans doesn’t mean they don’t want democracy.” What, pray tell, does an “American” look like? The Republicans have only xenophobia, bigotry and fear to purvey, and when the mob howls for blood, it is transcendently clear that these fake Christians are both loony and dangerous. And if Bob Parks was there, he’d fear for his life.

  9. Cameron Says:

Which, if we had any of that pesky “evidence” stuff that lawyers like you appreciate having, we would be denouncing pretty damn loudly.

  10. Bob Says:

Yeah well Carney, go to almost any liberal site and you’ll see many dreams and wishes for Republican death. You all call that free speech. But when conservatives don’t want to take the liberal lies, indoctrination of our kids, shouts downs and push backs, and Obama mysteries anymore, we’re angry and dangerous.

And I’ve grown at peace with my mortality long ago, Carney. Living for three years on a floating bomb in the middle of an ocean that can swallow up a carrier without a trace does that.

I seldom fear for my life nowadays.

  11. CARNEYVA Says:

Cameron: What cave are you living in? I suppose it will not be “real” to you and people of your ilk until some terminally confused, misguided individual decides to take matters into his own hands through violence. “Kill him!” is never an acceptable level of political discourse.

As for my comment about Bush’s transcendently ignorant, racist remark (which was vigorously denounced by George Will), we know exactly what he meant: “‘Real’ Americans are white.”

By the way, you never answered my question regarding the SNL skit about Bush: What legal cause(s) of action would arise therefrom?

  12. lpswampy Says:

Hey, Carney… When BHO produces his birth certificate, I’ll shut up. What is he hiding? Why is the DNC fighting this issue? Doesn’t it bother you that BHO has been doing his community organizing in Kenya propping up Raila Odinga (known Communist thug)?

“…you and people of your ilk”. Let’s talk about Obama and people of HIS ‘ilk’. Ayres, Rezko, Odinga, Wright, Madeline Talbot, Frank Davis, Malcolm X, Farrahkan, Khalid Abdul Muhammedm, Cone, Saul Alinsky, Khalid al-Mansour, Bernadette Dorn. Are these your heroes? Do you agree with their politics? These are the people of Obama’s “ilk”. There’s not one of them I’d hold up to my children as heroes, mentors or benefactors.

I don’t wonder why BHO has been attracted to people of this ‘ilk’ as much as I wonder whey THEY have been attracted to Obama? Knowing their Marxist/Radical histories, why are they supporting Obama? Mmmm do I smell an agenda?

  13. OldnyFirefighter Says:

    Carney,

Bob doesn’t have to worry about assassination as long as he has friends that believe in the right to self defense (including me). Now Character Assassination, on the other hand, seems to be a “Right’ of Liberals, or at least they think so. Don’t have the audacity to refute their ‘View” as you will be called a “Racist”. My dislike of Obama has nothing to do with his color. It is his Socialist/Marxist Ideology I find Un-american & I will stand on that statement. I will, therefore, not vote for any Socialist/Marxist be he white, black, green or any other color or Ethnic identity. I also will not vote for anyone disrespecting our Flag or the US Constitution and its Amendments. Either Love it or Leave it.

Carney, let’s not fool ourselves any longer, OK? You are not here for discussion. You’re just a troll and not even a decent one at that.

Do you honestly think someone like me is going to rise up to the race-baiting or even breaking out remarks like “your ilk”? I’m a former Marine; I’ve had my ass chewed out by professionals on a level you can’t even see down where you are.

And in all honesty, there’s not much point in answer you, either on the bit about the SNL skit or on any other topic for that matter. If you feel the need to insult me based on my race, gender or any other small issue like that go on ahead. I’ll stick to judging people by the content of their character.

But on the bright side, you did stop using the Caps Lock all the time.

  19. CARNEYVA Says:

Cameron: I was seeking robust, honest discourse. Obviously, I have posed questions which you cannot or will not honestly answer. I do not believe I have insulted you on the basis of your race or gender because I do not know you or who you are. You have chosen to respond with puerile, ad hominem arguments and insults, avoiding the substance of the issues. In this same vein, the Republicans are bloviating about some 1960s activist who was playing at revolution when Obama was eight years old. Why should any sane, thinking person give a flaming rat’s ass about this diversion when his/her financial security is at risk? I will close this colloquy by saying that if elected, Barack Obama will prove to be one of the best and best-loved presidents this country has ever had. I have met the man on several occasions, and he is not only brilliant, but he is exactly who he appears to be: a uniter.

  20. The Machine Says:

    CARNEYVA is projecting.

    Again.

  21. CARNEYVA Says:

Yet another non-productive, non-responsive, stupid ad hominem reply. Can’t you people respond to clear questions? Well, Sarah Palin has elevated evasion to a form of comic art, so why should anyone expect anything else from a campaign that has nothing to offer but the toxic brew of fear, bigotry and ignorance?

In this vein, the Minnesota woman who questioned John McCain on Obama’s “Arab” qualities has a five-minute interview on YouTube. It is creating an international sensation – for its sheer bigoted idiocy. It is an embarrassment to our great country, but unfortunately, typical of America’s dumbing down. I needn’t make any of this up; these morons convict themselves out of their own mouths.

  22. Cameron Says:

Honest discourse? Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you “Carney through the ages!”

IF MCCAIN AND PALIN WIN, WILL SHE BE SWORN IN BY HER AFRICAN WITCH DOCTOR?

    Then that other favorite:
OR ARE YOU TOO BUSY LICKING THE BOOTS OF YOUR CONSERVATIVE OVERSEERS?

And do you remember: THE CONSERVATIVES AND RIGHT-WING FANATICS WHO PAT YOU ON THE HEAD ARE THE VERY SAME PEOPLE WHO FOUGHT TOOTH AND NAIL AGAINST THE CIVIL RIGHTS YOU NOW ENJOY. AND THEY HAVE THE SAME MONIKER FOR YOU THAT THEY HAD FOR THE BLACK SOUND TECHNICIAN AT THE PALIN RALLY: NIGGER!

Oh, and how could we forget other hits such as:

The Republicans have only xenophobia, bigotry and fear to purvey, and when the mob howls for blood, it is transcendently clear that these fake Christians are both loony and dangerous. And if Bob Parks was there, he’d fear for his life.

Wow. Such honest and open discourse from someone on the other side. At least when Blaine posts here, he’s rational and can back up what he says.

Since you have fixated on the SNL remark, I’ll leave it at this: It showed a parody of two real people and had the caption “people who deserve to be shot.” Had they received death threats after that, they could have filed a legal complaint on it. In other words: I was playing the Devil’s Advocate by suggesting that there were non-sinister reasons that the original skit was yanked.

And beyond that, I’m pretty much done taking you seriously. I was willing to be civil to you, but that effort was an obvious waste.

  23. Bob Says:

    Wow Cam.
That must have left a mark.

Carney, since you’ve invited yourself here and insulted readers and my personal heritage, you really have no standing in demanding anyone answer your questions.

    Period.

PS. And you really do come off as a liberal, racist jerk.
