Abuse Of Power

If you lived in Florida, your house was being flooded out, and you called your local department of public works, we’d all like to think they’d respond. But if we’re talking about a natural disaster scenario, do you believe help would be on the way, right away?

During the height of Tropical Storm Fay, when many Jacksonville residents were trying to keep rising water out of their homes or dealing with fallen trees and power lines, the city sent a public works crew to put sandbags around U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s (D- Jacksonville) home along the Trout River.

Brown denied getting special treatment, telling Channel 4 that she’s like any other citizen who had an emergency. She said that when her roof caved in and water flooded her home, she called the city for help.

I would consider myself a lottery winner if during an historic flood a crew were to drop everything, come to my house and bring me sandbags, while tens of thousands of other people were bailing gallons of water per hour out of their homes, and others were waiting for those same crews to get the power back up.

No preferential treatment here. Nah, no way.

Listen to the congresswoman. With all her constituents suffering, it was all about her.
