‘68 Not Recreated
At least by these insignificant punks…
The Democratic National Convention started Sunday not with a bang, but a whimper. The radical left-wing group Recreate 68 “commandeered” the steps of the Colorado State Capitol to protest the war in Iraq. (They had a permit.) The speakers spent the entire morning decrying “fascist America” and pronouncing the death of the freedom to assemble and freedom of speech. They used a very large outdoor sound amplification system.
The crowd was small (less than 200 people.) The media was omnipresent (as many reporters as demonstrators.) The hypocrisy was overwhelming.
Somehow, this wasn’t surprising.
It was Sunday. The protest started in the late morning while many of the potential participants were still three or four hours from attempting to get out of bed.
Maybe an omen of the potential worth of the youth vote?
The speakers included Cindy Sheehan (lately famous for runnign against Nancy Pelosi because she’s too conservative); Ron Kovic (a wounded Viet Nam war vet, and perennial protestor, who had the audacity to announce through a thousand watt public address system that he could not speak his mind in America); and the indefatigable ignoramus Ward Churchill. Professor Churchill, you might recall, claimed that the people slaughtered on 9/11 had “provoked” the attacks.
The “emcee” of the event kept trying to provoke the police who were providing security for the protest. He claimed, just as the police in Chicago had been responsible for the riots at the Democratic Convention in 1968, that the police in Denver would be responsible for any violence that occurred during this demonstration in Denver.
Recreate 68 must be bummed out that real hell didn’t break loose.
Arrests would’ve resulted in temporary incarceration and free food.

That they are getting any attention is too much. Someone shourl buy them a dictionary so they can look up what a facist really is. But that would call for independant thought processes.

Duly noted that none of ‘em had the balls to evoke a real confrontation with John Law…

Awesome. Last year I attended a rally in Madison, on behalf of virtual charter schools. With seven days from the word go we had 1800 people on the steps of our state capital.
All this to rally around a state assembly bill.
On a weekday.
How long have these guys had to plan it? Recreate 68, y’all are weak.

[...] This photo was taken at the main doors of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver. The Capitol Building was draped with Hate Amerika banners glorifying Saddam Hussein as a backdrop for ex-professor Churchill’s address to his revolutionaries before the Hate Amerika march. In 2004 Democrats took control of both the State House and Senate for the first time since 1974. In 2006 Democrat Bill Ritter took over the governor’s office. Speakers included Cindy Sheehan (”The biggest terrorist is George W. Bush.”); Ron Kovic (a wounded Viet Nam war vet, and perennial protestor, who had the audacity to announce through a thousand watt public address system that he could not speak his mind in America); and the indefatigable ignoramus Ward Churchill.
