It’s Not A Recession, Dammit

Just because you’re a politician, doesn’t make you an expert on everything.

Months ago, I accused politicians of talking down the economy purely for use as an election year issue. It didn’t matter if their games negatively affected millions of people’s live, as long as the win. They may just have to explain the math…

The U.S. economy grew modestly in the second quarter after a weak performance at the end of last year, revealing a pattern of choppy growth characterized by a weakening labor market and financial crises that are spooking consumers and businesses.

Sure, we have banking and real estate issues, but growth means no recession. It’s too bad politicians don’t read much.

Everything we were told about the stimulus package not working, was wrong.

Economic stimulus payments to American consumers, along with strong export growth due to the weak dollar, helped gross domestic product grow at a 1.9% annualized rate, following a low 0.9% pace in the first quarter. The government, in revised data, said the economy contracted a slight 0.2% in the final three months of 2007, raising the prospect that a recession may have begun during that period.

But it didn’t. The economy is moving along. Maybe limping, but still moving along.

Remember this when Pelosi and Schumer tell you we’re in recession. Think of it as wishful thinking.

As the Godfather says, if it’s good news for the country, it’s bad news for the dems. But what’s bad for the nation is good news for the dems.

Bonus points for spelling “dammit” correctly.
