How many of us could go on vacation and not finish up our work before doing so? And how many of us get five weeks off to boot?
President George W. Bush scolded Congress for a third straight day for refusing to vote on measures that would expand domestic oil drilling and exploration.
Maybe some 1950′s-era private eye style bitch slaps may be more appropriate. Something has to be done, because if the congress goes on vacation and gas prices go up again, Nancy Pelosi’s dream of a Democrat-controlled Capitol Hill may become her worst nightmare.
”I’d rather be buying our oil from U.S. producers than sending our money overseas,” said Bush in a speech to the West Virginia Coal Association at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs.
Still, he returned to his theme that lawmakers, before leaving for summer recess this weekend, must vote to lift restrictions on offshore drilling, tapping vast oil reserves in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and developing oil-shale sources in the Rocky Mountain states.
Bush said he called for lifting drilling restrictions six weeks ago, and ”the Democratic leaders haven’t done anything.”
The Democrats are now in a bad place, and they know it.
If gas prices go up again, they’ll rightly get the blame because the new American chant is “Drill here, drill now.” However, if we are allowed to drill and prices drop dramatically, people may blame Democrats for not doing allowing drilling earlier, thus costing millions of people unnessesary drama in their wallets for years.
Nancy Pelosi may be the first and last Speaker of the House we’ll see for awhile.
Who knows, maybe her name will even become a verb…!

blaine, I find it amusing that when you are trying to prove a point you quote something but this time you didn’t even quote the whole word.
The only positive thing I can get from that post is that you will pick an choose what to quote without real substance, at least we know that you are untrustworthy.
Can either of you show me that they aren’t doing business while on “vacation”?
Ahh ask to prove the negative. Since you can’t prove they are you lose the argument.
umm Henry didn’t start with that. He starteds with congress’s lack of action.
Funny that you are avoinding the issue. How much dos BHO pay youfor this time?
I find it funny you accuse me of avoiding the issue at hand and start out with this.
You still keep avoiding the issue of Congress’ lack of action.
That’s okay, Blaine; we all know you’re one of the 9% who approve of the job Pelosi and Reid are doing. Just keep apologizing for them…
You find someone who ever ran for Congress saying “I’ll never spend any time in my home district.” and let me know how well they do.
Too little too late. Your first comment clearly avoided the issues at hand.
“They need time to go home to their districts and find out what their people want them to do.”
What a load of crap.
They found out weeks ago, yet, under Nancy Pelosi’s leadership, did nothing.
Can either of you show me that they aren’t doing business while on “vacation”? I’ve seen many many Congressman go home to their constituencies during breaks in Congress and hold town hall meetings and the like.
Their primary job is NOT in Washington. It’s in their home districts. You can’t represent them if you are never there. They need time to go home to their districts and find out what their people want them to do.
See above. And what you can count on, although it’s not funny, is how many arguments I’ve seen here which haven’t drift from the subject at hand to me.
The number is very close to zero.
I never do that, yet you claim I’m avoiding the issues at hand.
LOL
I love how the “progressives” always jump to the “He/She/They did it too!” excuse. Someone call the Whaaaambulance!
Try supporting the action the Democrats have taken, on their own merits, instead of excusing it by pointing out that someone else, who’s not even in the running for any election, did it.
Tu quoque.
Well Blaine teh President is one person. The congress is 535 so yes different standards. Unless you can show me that congress is actually doing the nations business while they are on vacation. I am sure he, W, can sign any bill or veto any bill in Crawford as easily as he can in DC
No Blaine, you obviously don’t see. Congress meets in D.C. to create, debate and decide on new legislation. Thier primary job is in Washington, where they need to be. And when they leave legislation on the table and take a vacation for a month, they haven’t finished thier job. Of course they don’t live by the same rules most of us live with; nor apparently were they brought up to believe the things I believe in, like finishing what I started, doing the best job I can do and taking responsibility for my actions (or inactions if that’s the case). The only job I can think of with LESS inclination to do the right thing than congress would be the local weather man on TV, and he’s only correct about 40% of the time. But at least he goes to work every day, and tries to do his best, unlike the majority of congress.
There ought to be one standard for all… but I think that would make you pretty uncomfortable. I’ve yet to meet a liberal democrat who had more interest in the truth than in their own agenda.
I see.
One standard for Congress.
Another for the President.
He is a Republican after all.
Presidents don’t take vacations. Like Scott says, the only difference between working in the White House ans Crawford is the location. Why do you think the Presidency ages people so fast? Imagine having a job for four to eight years with no time off.
Hey Blaine, considering he is in a position to get as much work done anywhere as he can in the White House, can you really fault the man for wanting to be away from Washington? And while he’s in Crawford, he probably gets more work done without dealing with the protocol bullshit in D.C.
I don’t think any U.S. President ever really gets a vacation during his term. Any time away from that embarassment we refer to as the nation’s Capital has got to be condusive to better working conditions.
By the way, that’s a real timely quote you put up, almost a year old. You must be one of the minor legue Obama-ites
With an 8% popularity rating, I don’t think it’s likely she or Harry Reid will be around after the election in any case.
A verb… haa haa haa! I like it.
Which president has taken more vacation than any other?
Anyone?
Anyone?
Anyone?
