A troubling pattern has yet again emerged.
While we were warned by General David Petraeus that the quelling of violence in Iraq is sensitive at best, the political and military climate there are now a lot better than a year ago this time. With that, the Democrat leadership and presidential candidates continue to operate from a position that all hell is breaking loose every day.
What do they know that we don’t?
Over the last couple of weeks in Iraq, a nationwide curfew has been implemented, there have been attacks on The Green Zone, and bombings within previously pacified areas are on the rise. Some of our brave servicemembers have lost their lives while Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi repeat their mantras that their efforts are an exercise in futility and their lives wasted.
It’s clear that al Qaeda has a horse in this race.
Should John McCain win the presidential election in November, the United States will continue to take the fight to the terrorist insurgency until the fight is done. However, al Qaeda also knows that should either Obama or Clinton win, they will do what the insurgency has failed to do thus far: push the Americans out of the region.
So, if you were al Qaeda, whom would you be rooting for, and what would you do as volunteers for their campaigns? Obviously they can’t donate money, but they can undertake some important grassroots activity.
According to the Associated Press,
BAGHDAD: Rockets or mortars were heard being fired in the direction of the Green Zone in the Iraqi capital. The U.S. military says there are no reports of injuries or significant damage.
Monday’s attacks come a day after a radical cleric Shiite cleric pulled his fighters off the streets after nearly a week of clashes in Baghdad and southern cities.
The Green Zone houses the U.S. and British embassies and much of the Iraqi government. The area has seen frequent attacks in the last week. At least two Americans working with the U.S. government have been killed.
The latest attacks come a day after cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his Shiite militiamen to stand down after clashing violently with Iraqi and coalition forces. The fighting came in response to a government crackdown on al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army.
The Green Zone also houses the world’s media.
When violence disturbs their sleep and freedom of movement, that becomes the reported template for the entire nation. When the media in Iraq becomes uneasy, it’s reflected in their reporting, and despite the fact that more and more Iraqis are standing in line for hours to volunteer to defend their own country, the words from our nation’s congressional leadership remains “The war is lost.”
One can only view presidential candidate pessimism, the recent emboldened stance of Code Pink in Berkeley, and the leftward lurch of Richard Mellon Scaife (founder of the vast, right wing conspiracy), as an unintentional but inspiring set of events for al Qaeda.
When our nation was perceived as united in the quest for victory in Iraq, the violence eased. Now that we have a potential make-or-break primary coming up in the next few weeks, it would appear that al Qaeda is digging in almost as deep as Hillary Clinton.
A few well-placed bombings in some Baghdad markets, as well as a few well-aimed mortars in the Green Zone, the murder of a Cardinal, reports of American POW’s still alive (but missing a finger or two) will make for some well-needed talking points for Democrat candidates. A few more military and civilian deaths will be good for party fundraisers. As long as al Qaeda does their part, it will give Democrats a boost, just as a successful surge gave their anti-war proclamations the appearance of being weak and purposefully out of touch with reality.
Al Qaeda isn’t stupid. They know a Democrat presidential victory is in their best interest, and it appears they’re willing to do what it takes to facilitate their end of the bargain. Expect a slow but steady ramp-up in violence, while our media and politicians conduct themselves in concert with negative events on the ground.
Al Qaeda can’t vote at our polls, but what they can do on the ground is something money can’t buy. Campaigns don’t pay for murder and death. Al Qaeda is donating that to the Democrats for free.

The illusions are deeper than Iraq. The truth is only just beginning to come out about Barack Obama. See:
