In our part of the world we fought long and hard to eliminate all forms of extremist violence and oppression. If anyone should feel that criticism of opposition to extremist violence and oppression is proper and called for, that violence and oppression should be promoted or permitted to prosper, perhaps that will then provide an explanation of why there never was much opposition to the extremist violence and oppression expressed in the following. "Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation, and destroy the male sex." — The opening paragraph in her SCUM Manifesto (SCUM: Society for Cutting Up Men) by Valerie Solanas (1967) That sort of violence, too, is driven by an irrational, radical and extremist ideology. The result of the violence called for is the same: oppression, blood, gore and death. One way or the other, be it radical extremism of the Islamic or of the feminist sort, once it controls society, civilization as we once knew it will no longer exist.
