We have a young woman in Saudi Arabia who made the cultural mistake of hanging out with a man not her husband. Later that night, she was gang raped by seven men, yet the Saudi Arabian government has sentenced her to six months in prison and 200 lashes (up from 90 because she blabbed to the media).
That many lashes could well be considered a death sentence.
We have a near-retirement-aged high school teacher serving out a two week prison term in an unknown location in Sudan because angry mobs with machetes want to kill her. The crime: allowing one of the children in her to name the class teddy bear “Mohammad”. She was found guilty of trying to incite religious hatred, but was spared the lash. Whether she gets out of Sudan alive is the big question.
What do these two women have in common?
Nothing.
That’s what is coming from feminist groups who traditionally have screeched in unison whenever an American man even looks at a woman the wrong way.
But for some reason, with these two situations, there is curious silence.
Tammy Bruce sums it up….
There has been appropriate international outrage over the treatment of Gibbons, from virtually everyone except American “feminists.” Multiple Muslim groups in the U.K. have condemned the sentence. Even the popular little boy in Mrs. Gibbons’ class who suggested the name for the bear came to her defense, explaining that he named the bear after himself.
Yet, when asked by FOX News for a comment about the situation, a National Organization for Women spokeswoman said they were “not putting out a statement or taking a position.”
This is how depraved the American left has become. A little Muslim boy in Sudan shows more courage and conviction for a woman under fire than a bunch of women sitting in Washington, D.C., who preen themselves on being the premiere “advocates” for women.
It’s been apparent for years that the American feminist establishment is nothing more than a shill for the shallow leftists in the Democrat party, wrapping themselves in the feminist label for convenience. Groups like NOW and Eleanor Smeal’s Feminist Majority, also amazingly silent in the past five years about Islamic terrorism and violence against women, use women’s issues as nothing more than slogans and chants in their efforts to gain political power.
Their vile silence isn’t limited to the Gibbons situation. In Saudi Arabia, a gang-rape victim has been sentenced to 200 lashes and 6 months in prison. Why? Because when she was raped, she was violating Sharia law by being out with a man who was not a relative. Her sentence was actually increased when she dared to appeal her sentence.
What has NOW’s and the Feminist Majority’s response been to this obscene outrage? The same silence offered to Gillian Gibbons. Nothing, because God forbid we should be reminded that there is a disturbed enemy out there worth fighting,
and God forbid that for one moment we should suggest that the United States might not be heinous imperialist the left casts us to be.
As a former president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women from 1990-1996 and having served on the National NOW Board of Directors, Tammy Bruce knows what would normally yank NOW’s chain. These two high-profile examples of “violence against women” should have the feminist types unified and chanting.
So why the silence? These feminists have been assuring us they are strong and can take on any man. With that, are these women afraid of Islamic extremists because they basically urinate on the concept of female equality?
Are these woman afraid because these people wouldn’t hesitate to stone every member of a NOW chapter to death in a heartbeat?
For the first time, NOW ain’t dealing with pussified American men. They’re dealing with religious fanatics who have more respect for their oxen than any woman, especially big-mouthed American women.
The bottom line: is the National Organization for Women afraid of men? It would appear so.
And in this case, with good reason….
