Okay; last we heard, White House press corps mascot Helen Thomas remarked to Albert Eisele, editor of THE HILL newspaper, “The day Dick Cheney is going to run for president, I’ll kill myself. All we need is one more liar. I think he’d like to run, but it would be a sad day for the country if he does.”
Now how many times have reporters engaged in the “gotcha” game and printed things that weren’t meant for public consumption? Well it would seem if you live by the sword, you die by the sword (pardon the pun…). Now Thomas is bitching that her words for Eisele’s ears only.
“I’ll never talk to a reporter again! We were just talking — I was ranting — and he wrote about it. That isn’t right. We all say stuff we don’t want printed.”
Ya think, Helen…?
How many people would have said the same thing after something that was meant to be off the cuff, was reported eagerly by Thomas? And I’d be willing to bet she took more joy in exposing the private musings of conservatives while showing due respect for the privacy of a liberal pal.
“I assume she knew that we were on the record. She’s obviously very upset about it, but it was a small item — until Drudge picked it up and broadcast it across the universe. Nobody has thinner skin than reporters.” Eisele said with a laugh.
Helen really needs to take a nap….
